There were no gremlins occupying any of the rooms today. Which Will supposed was a good thing. Except that at least when there was a gremlin problem that meant there was something to do.

Besides paperwork.

There was plenty of paperwork to do. Somehow.

He settled in behind the front desk and got to work on going through a stack of said paperwork. Just another Tuesday.

Well, Buck was at the station and Eddie was getting things together to move here. But mostly just meant he had some free time to check things out around town.

And hey, even if the place was quiet, he should probably get familiar with where the medical care was. He was still new, okay? He didn't know about the emo comas or rabies shots.

"Hey," he said, kind of poking his head in to look around.

“Hey,” Will replied back as the player realized they forgot to do ocd threads so oops flying ocd free today. “What brings you by?” New face, which was surprising, but not too surprising; it was, after all, the time of year for that.

IT WAS FOR THE WEAK ANYWAY.

"Checking things out while I have time," Eddie replied, stepping in to offer him a handshake. "I'm going to be working up at the fire station and, well, paramedic... clinic."

“Oh!” Will nodded, taking that offered hand. “Eddie, right?” Had Buck told him about the weirdly invasive squirrels yet? “Will Halstead. Ostensibly I’m in charge around here.” A beat. “Where ‘here’ is the clinic, anyway.”

Both him and Travis had and it was still so, so weird to Eddie. But he was still here.

"Eddie Diaz," he said, filling in the full name. "Yeah, I've been warned it's a pretty quiet town mostly. Even with the weird sleep thing I managed to arrive in time for."

“Quiet but weird about sums this place up,” Will nodded. “Which, speaking for myself, has kind of been a nice change of pace.” Though he did make it out to the mainland for a shift or two at a handwavey ED in Baltimore these days.

"Yeah, Buck really undersold some of the things here," Eddie said like he really couldn't blame him. Because most of it sounded completely insane.

“Can you blame him, though?” Will said, unknowingly echoing that narrative. Will was fairly certain if he’d tried telling anyone back in Chicago the whole truth about this place, they would’ve seriously suggested he get himself a psych eval.

Eddie held up a hand in surrender to that one. "Yeah, the squirrels thing is still going to take some time to get used to."

Because he was a private guy, you know?

“I hear if you bribe them with rum, they’ll leave you alone. For a while, anyway.” Not that he’d actually tried it himself. Yet.

"That doesn't sound great for the squirrels." Oh, sweet, summer child.

“Pretty sure they’d disagree with you there.” Do not try and detox the squirrels, Eddie. It would not end well for anyone.

He was just worried for their tiny, little livers!

Poor guys.

"As of yet, I've only seen any of them from a distance." No rabies shots for this guy! He had one up on the department already! "And I'm okay with that."

Will and Steve (of the M variety) actually had a working theory that the squirrels were clearly mutants of some kind; the ability to process as much alcohol as they did without getting liver disease was clearly their superpower.

“Yeah, trust me, they’re sneaky enough to get close enough to read text messages sometimes, and you never even see them.”

"That sounds terrifying," Eddie had to admit. Because what even? Not cool, squirrels. Not cool.

And yet, people stuck around despite the regular invasions of privacy.

“At least they don’t bite. That I know of.” There very much were things that did bite, though!

"So, stock up on supplies for animal bites?" Eddie said, kind of inferring it for his medical kit.

“Couldn’t hurt,” Will confirmed. “The raccoons are the worst of the wildlife around here. If you can count raccoons who run a brewery as ‘wildlife’, anyway.”

"You stocked up on rabies shots?" Because Eddie knew better. Give him an escaped turkey over raccoons any day.

No one on island had ever been kidnapped by a turkey, that much was true.

“Yeah,” he nodded. “Got plenty.” For a small-town clinic, they were remarkably well stocked with, well. Just about anything. Including some stuff that hadn’t even been invented yet. Or wasn’t for human medical needs.

No one tell Buck about bacta, okay? No one. It would encourage him to do dangerous stuff.

"Well, it's not exactly what I pictured when I got here, but... it seems kind of nice anyway?"

“I kinda love it, weirdness and all,” Will confirmed.

A huge part of that was the place felt a hell of a lot safer than Chicago had this last year. Yeah, sure, sometimes the island was invaded but the island also had actual superheroes with powers and shit.

"High praise," Eddie said with a laugh. "Hasn't chased people off it seems."
