Fandom Clinic; Thursday [01/13].
Libby had had an awfully eventful first day at the clinic last week, but she had to admit, she probably couldn't have asked for a better learning experience because of it! So she was a little bit torn, because, on the one hand, a part of her hoped somehting exciting happened again, just so she could keep learning first hand, but, on the other hand, that would mean someone needed medical attention, and that was kind of a terrible thing to hope for! So she wondered if it would be okay to just sort of hope for something minor to happen, where no one was really hurt, but she still got to take care of something and learn yet another facet of this field.
Of course, now if someone did come in needing help, she'd feel terrible about having wished for it, so now she was mostly just hoping God would see fit to keep everyone safe and sound today, and leave her to learn through her books and online suplimentary materials and some practical exercises with the nurses instead!
The Clinic is open!

Re: The Front Desk - 01/13.
Sans hot chocolate this time, sadly.
“How’s your day going?” he asked.
Re: The Front Desk - 01/13.
"It's going very well," she then dutifully reported, "thank you. Not nearly as busy as last week, but that's probably a good thing. I've been reading up on common winter medical complaints in the meantime."

She went to school in a castle now, Will, and she had not spent nearly enough time marveling at that.

He was also giant and looked like a shark, which she was...still working on processing, if she was completely honest, but...baby steps!
Re: The Front Desk - 01/13.
… Much like Libby, he was still processing the ‘giant shark-looking’ part.
“Didn’t have any of those either. Well, maybe the self-styled sort who thought themselves as good as, but I don’t think that counts. So- you were homeschooled before, then?”
Re: The Front Desk - 01/13.
Somehow.
And Libby nodded with her answer to the question, biting her lip a little nervously, because she was used to getting odd responses to that information, and she hoped it didn't end up making Dr. Halstead think she wasn't going to be as smart as other kids because of it.
"That's right," she said. "My family..." She paused, remembering how Vi had reacted to some of this information and reconsidered how to explain a little; it was one thing to have your roommate hate you. It was something else to have a mentor directly involved in reshaping your future to feel that way. "My parents believed that an education should both start and end in the home, and never put much stock in public schools."
Or the medical profession, either, but she was definitely not saying that part outloud.
Re: The Front Desk - 01/13.
“Sounds a lot like my dad, to be honest. Pretty sure the only reason my brother and I went to public school is he figured it was free babysitting.”
Re: The Front Desk - 01/13.
Her head tilted curiouly at him and she gave a faint, unsure smile. "See, now," she said, "that's where I came in.
"Also," she added, because she instantly felt bad for how uncharitable that sounded, "we're very traditional. The only work outside the home my mama did was the accounting for Daddy's business. Between myself, her, and my brother Justice, there was never any shortage of hands and eyes on the Littles."

Re: The Front Desk - 01/13.
She did look back at Dr. Halstead, even if she did shrink back a little, that deep wound of disobedience still a little too deep and fresh to not be painful.
"It's all very complicated, Dr. Halstead," she tried. "But our neighbor, Mr. Forrester...he's...he's a nurse, actually, and he's the one who found this program here at the clinic here, and Mama...and Grandma Jean...they thought it would be a good idea."
Suddenly, she was siezed with an uncertain dread. What if Dr. Halstead agreed with her father, that this was no place for a girl like her? Or that it didn't matter, that there was but one authority that could be above that of a father, and that was of God Himself, who spoke through the father? Could he kick her out? Send her home? She hadn't even made it two weeks...
And all she could do was look at him, waiting, hoping, praying...
Re: The Front Desk - 01/13.
"Hey," he said, his voice going softer. "Trust me, I understand complicated. Especially when it comes to fathers. But it doesn't really matter to me what he thinks, as long as where this is where you want to be." And all the evidence so far pointed to her very much wanting to be here.
Re: The Front Desk - 01/13.
"Oh," she gushed, her eyes wide as if they couldn't quite contain all the sincerity infused into the statement, "I want this more than I've ever wanted anything else in the world."
Granted, when you were raised to be content with what you were given and to not want anymore more than that, that was a pretty low bar.
