She might force herself into a good mood. Maybe.

Zayne walked into the clinic with a sleeve rolled up as he looked at the large patches of gray skin on his arm. "Hi," he said, when he reached the desk. "I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to get this looked at. It seems like the reasonable thing to do with, you know, people turning into gray monsters."

"Yes, you should definitely let me take a look. It's good to know there are still a few sensible people left," Chloe said with a smirk. "When did this start?"

"I like to save nonsense for when I really need it," Zayne joked. Actually, no, that was pretty much true. But he would claim it was a joke. "It started yesterday. I'm guessing it's because I got monster drool on me. Which, really, is the most disgusting part of this."

"I'm going to assume a monster got too close and that you weren't doing anything to provoke it," Chloe said, because she wanted to be nice. "You're probably right, because these things are apparently just that contagious. As if the random spots weren't bad enough."

"That was pretty much it. It was actually trying to bite me, though, so this is almost a win. Relatively speaking," Zayne said.

"I also tried healing it myself, but didn't have any luck. I don't suppose anyone here has done better with that kind of thing?"

[OOC: Have to run off for a couple hours!]

Chloe sighed and shook her head. "Unfortunately, no. The good news is, you don't look any worse than anyone else I've seen at your stage. The bad news is, even if I managed to heal you, it'd just come right back. I can give you something if it hurts and we can sedate you if needed but...I guess we're not very helpful here, huh?"

"At least I know I'm in good company," Zayne said. "Just so I know, at what point should I restrain myself so I don't go full monster and start attacking people?"

"Two days from now, if people haven't figured out how to reverse it by then," Chloe said. "I'll be optimistic that that happens if you will?"

"Fortunately, I'm a pretty optimistic person," Zayne said. "Two days should be plenty of time."

"Right? Totally enough time." She even sounded perky putting it out there. "And if you need anything before then, and we can help here, just come back."

Raven was still at the clinic, ready to help in any way she could.

Sookie wasn't a doctor or a healer or much of anything. But she had a good bedside manner, and an extra pair of hands, and the ability to grab coffee for people. It kept her mind off of what Bobby might be doing out there today, and if worst came to worst, she knew she could manage people's pain, too. Always a help.

Ryan was back once again, hoping that she could be of use to people.

Stark may have had to lob some leftover cupcakes at the rampaging teal deer on the way here, but he'd made it back again in one piece.

He still felt rather helpless in the face of all this, but at least he was doing something. He still hoped this would somehow manage to not end in any deaths, but he was prepared for that. He was always prepared for that.

Ryan didn't mean to stare at Stark, but she couldn't help it. Hopefully she would get caught...

Stark was used to staring. It didn't really bother him at this point. Even here, the mask wasn't exactly average attire. He still noticed, though.

"Do you need something? Help?"

"What? Er, no. I mean, I was just trying to figure out what I'm supposed to be doing to help out," said Ryan, flustered at getting caught. "Sorry. I'm Ryan, one of the new kids, and I'm not used to weird things. Not that I think you're weird or anything like that."

She bit her lip, wishing she had just kept her mouth shut instead of babbling for so long.

"It's all right," Stark assured her. "I've been called much worse than weird. Much worse. Hello, Ryan. I'm Stark. And there isn't much to do, it seems. Mostly waiting, now."

"Nice to meet you, Mr. Stark," said Ryan. "What should I do when the waiting is over and people start showing up to get medical attention?"

"Just Stark. No mister. First, be careful. Don't get bitten. Or scratched." Those weren't usually such a concern, and maybe there was a solution or a cure or something coming soon and they wouldn't be a concern for much longer. He hoped. "Just do what you can. There hasn't been much, so far, that can be done."

"Got it. I'll make sure to be careful around them," said Ryan. She'd been around enough disease outbreaks in the jungle to know that she needed to use gloves when working with patients.

"It seems like the only thing we can do is make someone more comfortable," Stark said. "Or restrain them. Or sedate them." Or all three. "And then there is more waiting. Are you from here? From Earth?"

"Yes. I assume it's the same Earth, but I'm not sure about a lot of things after coming here," said Ryan.

"It's a strange place," Stark said. "But a good one, I think. Not so much now." Creepy rocks and people turning into monsters tended to give people a negative opinion of a place. "Usually though."

"I wasn't happy when my parents wanted to dump me here, but it's really a lot better than I thought," said Ryan. "I'm actually starting to enjoy it when nothing is trying to bite me."

"Most places are more pleasant when nothing wants to eat you there." How very observant of you, Stark. "I like it here. Even with all the strangeness. I just ended up here, at first, but I keep coming back."

"I tried to run away once, a few weeks ago, but I didn't get past the causeway." Running away was just Ryan's way of coping.

"But I never really had a home when I was younger, so it would be nice to call this place home for a couple of years until I graduate," she went on.

"Why did you run?" Stark asked. There hadn't even been monsters or anything a few weeks ago. Just ice and cold. "It makes a good home." Once you got past the monsters and creepy rocks and things like that. "Sometimes I think should stay."

"When I got here, I figured I would give it a try for a few weeks before going back to join my parents. So when my few weeks were up, I thought I should get going. Also, it was too cold," said Ryan with a shrug.

"The cold was bad." Stark gave a little involuntary shiver. He really didn't like cold, especially not when it was that severe. "At least that went away. Hopefully it won't happen again. Maybe the island will stop moving soon." He wouldn't mind that.

"You mean that it actually stops and stays in one place for more than a few weeks?" asked Ryan, surprised. Maybe she was getting used to these rotating destinations.

"It stayed in one place when I was at school here," Stark said. "I think it moved another summer. When I was gone. I was never here when moved until this summer."

"So it might stay in place again," said Ryan, slightly disappointed. "It will make it easier to get back to the airport, then, if I wanted to go back."

"It might keep moving." Stark shrugged. "It's never predictable. Or, if it stops, there will be something else strange. There always is. I was a girl, a few times. Not all of them here. Some things still happen even after you leave."

"You were a girl? Are you kidding?" asked Ryan. In the back of her mind, she was wondering how much of the weird stuff might follow her if she tried to run away again.

"Not kidding." Stark shook his head solemnly. "Sometimes people are animals. Or children. Small children. But I've only ever been me. Or a girl that was me. I like being me-shaped."

"So I should be prepared for anything while I'm here. And then when I leave, I need to stay prepared for it," said Ryan.

This conversation was turning out to be very valuable.

"Yes. Right. Exactly." Stark smiled slightly. Of course, considering his life before and after being a student here, he felt you needed to be prepared for anything everywhere. Always. "It helps, knowing that strange things just keep happening. It makes them a little less shocking. A little. Usually. Not always."

Just don't treat anyone to a head injury, okay?
