FTEC, Monday [7/18]

It being Ronan's first shift back, he made sure to explore through the clinic and make note of any changes -- where things were stored, what kind of condition the files were in and whether they needed to be tidied, how the stock was in the exam rooms.

In deference to long-standing tradition, he was drinking spicy hot chocolate, although he'd brought coffee for the nurses.

Oh look! A ringing phone!!!

Yes, someone finally had a few moments for a long overdue phone call.

Ronan grinned when he glanced at the caller ID. "Dai stihó," he greeted her as he answered. "How's it going, love?"

[Not gone quiiiiite yet! But soon.]

Safely tucked in her apartment with the AC turned up, Isabel grinned. "It was 106 degrees today. How do you think I'm doing?"

Ronan laughed. "Well, you're warmer than we are, anyway. Fandom has decided to visit the ice age, apparently."

He paused.

"You did get the email that I'm back in Fandom, right? And back Earthside, generally?"

"I did. And I'm slightly annoyed that you didn't stop by Vegas first." Yes, that was a little bit of pouting on the other end of the line. "We could have cooked something. Which apparently could be mammoth meat if you decide to visit now. I wonder how that grills up?"

"First chance I have for a visit, I'll make my over," he promised. "... With or without mammoth meat. We could find out together how it grills."

If he managed to catch one.

"You'll be happy to know that I ordered a spicy hot chocolate from the Perk on my way in to work today."

"I might need a bigger grill." The tiny little, possibly illegal grill she had hidden on the apartment balcony was not going to be useful for anything other then a very small steak.

"On any other day, I'd be kind of jealous," she admitted. "But there's the whole 106 degree thing going on. Still if things stay cold on the island, maybe I'll visit you for a break from the heat."

"You've probably got two weeks," Ronan suggested. "I've been catching up on radio broadcasts to see how the island's been doing? Seems it's been pretty much two weeks per location, like clockwork.

"Speaking of catching up -- did you hear about the ponies?"

"Damn, it hasn't done that since we graduated. It must have gotten bored." It never failed to amuse Isabel to talk about the island as some sort of sentient being.

"Other then some of the administrators and teachers, and now you, I really don't know anyone on the island these days. So I don't know any of the gossip." She missed her Facebook friend Drake for both his Farmville gifts and his random status updates on island happenings.

"It was only travelling around the world then, though, wasn't it?" Ronan asked. "Or am I just failling at memory? This time we're definitely time travelling, too. Last week when I got here, we were in Regency-period England.

"At any rate, I will do my best to keep you up to date on the gossip. Although," he pointed out, "if you came for a visit, you could help make the gossip."

"Just locations. Time travel is definitely a new twist on it."

A visit might not be a bad thing, after all it had been over a year since she'd seen her favorite Irishman. "Great radio fodder. That's always fun. but it would be nice to see you again. It's been too long. I want to hear all about your adventures."

[Real life is trying to kill me.]

"Well, probably not all of them."

Ronan pulled out his laptop and sent a quick email in Izzy's direction -- nothing in the body, just the subject "My last adventure" and an attachment. "Check your email."

"No, probably not all of them," Isabel agreed with a grin.

Since her laptop was currently located in her lap, it only took half a second to open her email and find the attachment. "That looks gorgeous. I'm jealous."

Ronan laughed. "The entire world's like that," he explained. "Their only landmass is equatorial islands, the result of a series of volcanic eruptions a few million years ago."

"And they haven't been invaded by any sort of inter-galactic development group looking to develop a tacky tourist resort?" Not that Isabel would know anything about tacky tourist resorts. Vegas was a model of decorum after all.

"Nah, their government's pretty strict about the kind of organisations that can open businesses there. I was lucky that I was there on an internship; it's really hard to get permission to go there just on vacation."

"Bummer. I guess I'll have to stop packing my bag. But that's going on my list of mental happy places for when I'm sick of dealing with the masses at work."

"So tell me though, why, when you can visit places like that, did you decide to head back to Fandom?"

[must sleep...]

"Well, there is the fact that I have worked there. And while we're not close, personal friends, I am acquainted with the planetary governor. A trip at some point isn't out of the question."

Ronan tapped one hand against the surface of the desk as he considered how to answer Isabel's question. "It's mostly... I mean, they needed more people for the clinic? And my internships had ended, and I was looking at coming back to Earth anyway."

Which we hopefully won't need!

I am around all day, probably, although there may be a few intermittent periods where I am AFK. :D
