As much as Martha didn't like being bored, she liked it better when the patients in the clinic could be helped easily. She divided her time between the inventory check she needed to do, checking up on Rose to see how she was doing, and wishing there was more she could do for her.

Rose was bored out of her mind. She was so freaking bored she was actually reading. It was a terrible, terrible book, sure, but it counted.

Also it kept her from driving everyone crazy as she tried to convince them she should be released right now, thank you.

When word of Rose's wishes reached Martha, she went to her room and peeked her head in with a smile. "Hi there. How are you feeling?" she asked.

"Fantastic," Rose said instantly. "Not like I'm going to fall down at all. Can I go?"

"Not yet," Martha said, grabbing her chart. "You don't feel dizzy at all?"

"Nope," she said. "No headaches either."

"No seeing spots or shapes?" Martha asked, going over to check Rose's pulse and temperature. "You gave Hawkeye quite the scare with that."

Rose had the grace at least to look a little ashamed. "Yeah, I would've avoided that if I'd known it was happening. But I haven't seen anything since I woke up."

Which was bugging her a little because she couldn't think of a reason why the ghosts wouldn't be around here too.

"Well, you certainly appear to be recovered," Martha said. "Unless you're lying about not having a headache, but since the town refuses to let me buy a polygraph, I suppose I'll have to believe you. With the stipulation that if your symptoms come back, you'll have someone bring you straight back here."

She smirked a little. "Do people lie enough to need a polygraph?" she asked. "Trust me, Dimitri would kill me if I was lying about it. If it comes back, I'll come right back. Before the falling down part."

"I think people would say anything to get out of here when they want to, as opposed to when they need to," Martha said. "Dimitri sounds like a good man. Make sure he helps you with the not falling down part."

Rose was unable not to smile a little at Martha's words. "Yeah, he's pretty awesome," she agreed, her feelings about him written pretty clearly on her face. "He'll make sure there's no more falling down, and I won't bother you guys again hopefully."

Oh, that was just adorable. Hopefully, Dimitri felt the same way.

"I hope we don't see you again either. Take care of yourself, all right?"

"Thanks, Dr. Jones," Rose said happily as she jumped up to get her stuff and go. "Tell Hawkeye I said thanks too, okay?"

Dimitri didn't know how long doctors observed normal humans in these situations, but he wasn't about to question the judgment of medical practitioners.

Sitting quietly in the chair, he had produced a book of his own to skim through. At the end of a chapter, he looked up, watching her for a few moments before asking, "How is it?"

It wasn't like she hadn't noticed him watching since Rose and 'paying attention to one thing' didn't often go together.

"Better than wanting to die of boredom," she said, making a face at him. Then paused. "It's terrible though. Did a Moroi write this or just a jackass?"

"Hmm, I suppose the author could fit both categories," Dimitri pointed out, folding his book closed. "It's that bad?"

"I think the guy's gonna try to sleep with every girl in the book," Rose said. "I'm like a chapter in and he's gotten with five."

"Sounds fascinating," he replied, one eyebrow lifting to indicate he was being facetious. "Or like some sort of how-to."

She snorted. "In real life, the girls would punch him in the face unless they were total idiots."

It was sad to think how many could potentially fall under the mantle of total idiot in that scenario. "That's what you'd do."

Which honestly brought up a complicated topic - whether or not Rose would actually be punching anything for a while.

"I'd try to get out of it nicely first," Rose decided, not wanting Dimitri to think she was going to be randomly punching people. She glanced over at him.

"Nicely?" Dimitri could imagine insulting...

Rose gave him a grin. "That means not using force."

"I was always good at the force part," Dimitri shared. "On the behalf of others who were too nice."

"That doesn't surprise me so much," she said. "Bet your sisters weren't totally thrilled by that when you were at school."

"Not exactly," he replied honestly with a little shrug. "But Moroi boys tend to tell stories about dhampir girls. It's a problem for me."

Rose shifted a little uncomfortably. "Yeah, well...yeah."

It was an awkward topic, he supposed, and had very little relevance in Fandom other than Adrian and his conquests. "Not something people here really concern themselves with."

"Which is a good thing," she pointed out, looking over at him. "It's less of a power thing here."

"You're probably right," Dimitri agreed, though he still didn't believe girls should be thrilled about boys who would tell stories about them. "So is that all that's happening in your book?" Clearly his Western was superior.

Which was one of the many reasons Rose was with Dimitri and not a Moroi guy, yes.

"There's some politics and Court shit," she said with a little shrug. "Nothing interesting yet. Why did you give me this book again?"

Dimitri actually liked the politics and Court stuff in that it was always interesting to see how other people viewed the dynamics. "Because it was in my bag."

She made a face at him. "You should start carrying around better books, Dimitri."

"I'll see what I can do next trip," he answered, rolling his eyes a bit.

"Thank you," she said, copying Lissa's regal attitude as she teased him. "That's why you're y favourite."

At least she seemed to be feeling herself, teasing and all. "That's a terrible reason."

"Oh yeah?" she challenged. "What reason would you approve of?"

"One that didn't involve me carrying your reading materials," he deadpanned.

"Nah, I think that's what it's going to be," Rose decided. "Take it or leave it."

"Fine, but no references to your personal pack mule." The impossible child had seemed very fond of playing 'how much can Dimitri carry' that weekend, after all.

She snickered at his condition. "I'll try to remember that, okay? But, you know, I'm having these issues with my brain..."

He leaned his arms on her bed and shot her a nearly amused look. "You're going to have to work on making this memorable, then."

"Maybe you should make it memorable for me," Rose pointed out. "That seems way more logical."

"Being in the clinic isn't enough?" Dimitri pointed out, finding his own logic.
