FTEC, Sunday, April 5

Martha had been very grateful for the quiet of the clinic yesterday. They hadn't had many zombies come to try to get in - the nurses had been quite fierce, and Martha could only imagine that word had spread - and the lack of patients had made Martha start to wonder if they'd get through this whole thing with everyone being all right. It was amazing that she still had some optimism left in her, but there it was.

Arthur would've resisted that analysis if he wasn't knocked out and bloody. He'd get to that part later. As it was, his body was very grateful for something flat and comfortable to lie on, which it rather promptly did as soon as they got there.

"He will be if I have anything to say about it," Martha said. "Do you know what he was hit with?"

"His helm," Merlin offered weakly. "And the barricade at the school."

"The zombies have reached the school?" Martha asked, looking up from checking Arthur's pulse. "I thought they were staying away."

"They attacked this afternoon," Merlin replied, following her movements with his eyes. It reminded him strongly of Gaius.

Martha grumbled under her breath, not wanting to swear in front of a possibly impressionable student. "Of course you all couldn't stay inside the building. That would have been the sensible thing to do," she said, sending one of the nurses go to get bandages as she checked Arthur's injured arm.

"Arthur got people to help build the barricade," He said softly. "He'd rather be killed than not fight to protect others."

"There seems to be a lot of that going around the school," Martha remarked, before giving Merlin a softer look. "He's going to be all right. Head wounds bleed more than you'd think. He'll need some rest, and I don't think he'll be using this arm any time soon, but he'll be all right."

Merlin nodded slowly and let go of the breath he'd been holding. "May I wait here?"

"Of course," Martha said. "Unless you have an injury you haven't told me about."

When the nurse came back, Martha had her carefully bandage Arthur's head while she set his arm, and made sure he was settled as comfortably as possible. "I'm sure he'll be glad to have company when he wakes back up."
