Once she'd made sure that the exam rooms were clean and the inventory was still as stocked as it should have been, Martha let herself get settled in behind the desk, and started flipping through the news stations, trying to find one that she could stand to watch for more than a few minutes at a time.

For our colorful first patient.

"Dude," Priestly said, swallowing again as he tried to keep in mind Dinah's advice to "puke later". "Zombies. Weird."

He was having a little bit of trouble focusing.

Martha guided him over to the bed in the exam room, and helped him sit down. "Did you run into trouble at the bar?" she asked. That was certainly the first thing she thought of when she heard the word "zombie" these days.

"Huh?" Priestly took a few moments to figure out what a bar had to do with anything. "I was buying hair dye."

"You weren't near Caritas?" Martha asked, carefully checking his pulse as she looked him over. "With the zombie band?"

Priestly shook his head, then winced. "The biscuits place. To meet up with Dinah. After buying hair dye." His eyes widened. "I dropped the hair dye!"

Yeah, prioritizing wasn't his best skill just then.

"I'm afraid your hair will have to stay the same color for a little while longer then," Martha said. "I wouldn't recommend dyeing your hair if you've got a concussion. Are you certain they were zombies? Here?"

"No?" Priestly was really only going on Dinah's assessment. "But dude was seriously stinky. And . . . gross looking. And he mighta said 'brains' and growled a lot."

Martha tried to tilt Priestly's head up so she could look into his eyes and check his pupils. "Was that before or after you hit your head on the pavement?"

Priestly was willing to let her tilt his head around all she liked, as long as his head would stop hurting eventually. And his arm. "Both?"

It really wasn't a bad thing for a patient to not be hallucinating, Martha told herself. "I'd say zombies are the strangest thing I've ever heard of, but that wouldn't be true, not even for here," she said. "Let me see your arm. Did you fall on it?"

Priestly bit his lip as he went against the urge to keep his arm close to his chest. "It grabbed me." There were, in fact, the beginnings of finger shaped bruises around his wrist. "I was tryin' to get away."

"I'll be as gentle as I can be, I promise," Martha said. True to her word, she tried to keep her fingers off of the bruises as she held and checked his wrist. "I think you've gotten away with just a sprain. I'll get a bandage and some ice, and that should get you feeling a little better."

Priestly frowned and nodded carefully. He might not have grown up fighting like some, but he'd gotten at least a few injuries in his football days. "Uh. What is the weirdest you've heard? 'Cause zombies're pretty weird."

Martha gave that some genuine thought as she went for a bandage and took Priestly's arm to carefully wrap his wrist. "Here, I'd say gremlins, although I've been lucky enough to never encounter any of them. In general? Probably Cybermen."

"I've heard of gremlins." He wasn't sure he wanted to know about Cybermen. "I . . . does this stuff happen a lot?"

"Not as often as it might seem," Martha said, wanting to sound reassuring. "And it could be a lot worse."

Priestly bit his lip and ducked his chin in a small nod. "Dude was trying to eat me."

He was a little bit freaked out.

"But he didn't," Martha said gently. "You fought him and you got away, and not everyone would be able to say that. Then you came here, which makes you smarter than some of your classmates too. You can stay here, if you'd like," she offered. "Even with a mild concussion, you should make sure to get some rest, and you're welcome to get it here."

"Dinah did all that." Priestly shrugged. "She's got this mind-whammy thing. I thought the guy was just sick, like I could help him out or something?" He kind of felt like an idiot. "I think I just wanna go home."

Martha nodded. "All right. Make sure you get some rest, and keep your wrist iced, ten to fifteen minutes on, and then twenty minutes off. If you feel worse at all, come right back here so I or whoever else is here can look at you." She smiled softly at Priestly. "And try not to be too hard on yourself?"

Priestly ducked his head and huffed a soft laugh. "Yeah. Thanks."
