Millie was happy to have new students on the island. It always made things more lively for a while. She and the nurses passed the time talking about the things they'd heard on the radio.

"Who did this to you?" she said, trying not to look as angry as she felt.

She looked at him seriously. "I can't heal this, but I should be able to make you a great deal more comfortable and speed up your body's own healing, if you allow me."

He nodded. "Not hurting all the time would be nice," he said quietly. "Even though it reminds me not to be an idiot."

"Lie back and relax as much as you're able," she said. "Just close your eyes. You might feel a slight tingle, but I don't think it will be uncomfortable." She put her focus into settling down the pain receptors in his nervous system and encouraging his body to heal itself a bit more efficiently.
After some time she opened her eyes and released his hand, looking a little pale and tired. "There. I think that should help some."

"It does," he said, opening his eyes and giving her a small smile. "Though I was doing fine by myself."

She sat down in the chair, conserving her strength. That had been a bit more difficult than she'd thought it would be.
