Millie was happy to have new students on the island. It always made things more lively for a while. She and the nurses passed the time talking about the things they'd heard on the radio.

It was a sulky Ben that walked slowly into the clinic. "My professor made me come," he explained. "I'm fine."

The way he was walking and the swelling in his cheeks said something else.
