Perhaps spending Christmas Day at work was to be considered sad, but it wasn't like he had anywhere else to be. And to be honest, Simon didn't mind. He started on an inventory of the supplies and made a list of things needed, which for some reason got very long, until he reminded himself it wasn't a Christmas Wish list.

Oh hey, Lily hadn't been here since she'd been a fake doctor. Still, on her mission to spread holiday cheer, she poked her head in, yelled, "Merry Christmas, everyone!" and popped back out to continue on her psychotically cheery little quest.

Simon looked up, surprised. "Uh, Merry Christmas to you too," he said, but she had already disappeared.

Nope, there were no Christmas dinner accidents, just Mary with a big plate of Christmas cookies. "I thought you could use a little something for coming in to work on Christmas," she said with a big smile.

"That's really thoughtful of you," Simon said, smiling warmly at Mary. "Come in. Would you like a cup of tea? I expect it to be quiet today."

"That would be lovely. I'm sure I can stay for a little while," said Mary.

He poured a cup from the teapot and offered it to Mary, then picked up a cookie for himself. "So what are your plans for the holidays?

"It'll just be a nice, quiet Christmas at the hotel for me," said Mary. "Everyone back home in Las Vegas is doing their own thing. My childhood sweetheart invited me to join his family, except it's his first Christmas with his new wife and their baby. I didn't want to intrude."

"I can see why," Simon said, running a hand through his hair. "And I have no celebrations planned, so working today didn't really bother me." After a pause he added: "Thank you for stopping by though. I was feeling a little lonely."

"I thought you might be," said Mary. "I also arranged for Gunther to bring you dinner this evening so you don't miss out."

"That's... that's really sweet of you." He was a little moved by her thoughtfulness. "So," he added searching for a topic of conversation. "Any plans for New year?"

"Not yet. I have a whole week to decide, but it may be just another quiet night in," said Mary.

"At least I'm only working the day after then," Simon said with a laugh. "Not that I mind." He helped himself to another cookie. "Although I will not be able to make you cookies in return."

"Well, the next time I'm in need of a doctor, you can return the favor," said Mary. "But with any luck, it won't be necessary."

"I hope so too," he said, laughing.

"You know, if you're not doing anything for New Year's Eve, maybe you should come over to my suite. We could get a room service dinner and watch a movie," suggested Mary.

"Oh, I'd enjoy that," Simon said. He hadn't actually got around to watching movies here, and good company and food was just what he needed. ~~Although it would have to be preplayed as the mun will be away for New Year.~~

"Then it's a date!" said Mary, grinning. ~~Preplay works for me too.~~

Simon smiled back and took another cookie. "Will you suggest a movie?" he asked.

"Sure! What kind of movie would you like to see?" asked Mary. "I prefer romantic comedies myself, but guys usually don't care for them."

Simon suddenly looked confused and uncertain. "I'm... not sure. I'll be happy to watch anything you suggest."

"I'll find something good, then. I promise," said Mary.

He really tried not to worry about his sister today.

Today is a bad day for worlds ending.
