FTEC -- August 03 -- Sunday.
When Adah came in for her clinic shift in the afternoon part of the day, she had a brief and fleeting thought of doing something cute like offering cootie shots for all the kids, but then she remembered that she disliked children more than she liked sticking needles into things, which was kind of impressive. So she just settled behind the desk, reading up on childhood psychiatric disorders, because she had a feeling that it wouldn't take long to watch these adults turned children and spot them out, considering what a lot of these children were like as adults.

"And what kind of owie," she asked, taking into consideration the hobbling. She considered herself quite the expert in limps, "might this be?"
Re: Front Desk -- Afternoon/Evening Shift -- 08/03.
The dog calmly sat down, merely pricking its ears up in interest.

"It really hurts," he whined just a little.
Of course, to an eight year-old probably every little scrape hurt like a major injury in the right company.

"If you'll just follwo me (http://community.livejournal.com/fandom_clinic/504617.html?thread=10417961#t10417961) and we'll go sit in a nice room where I can see what'll make it better?"
She eyed the dog again. "He'll have to stay out here, though. Sorry."
Re: Front Desk -- Afternoon/Evening Shift -- 08/03.
He looked across his shoulder to the dog. "You...uh," he paused for a bit, as if he was trying to think of something, "stay here, 'kay?"
The dog lay down near the desk, head on its paws as it watched them walk away.
Re: Exam One -- H.M. Murdock
He took his time climbing up, trying not to hurt his ankle much by doing so, but he couldn't help but bump it a little as he finally got on.
Re: Exam One -- H.M. Murdock
She didn't even realize she'd said it, with her clear Southern drawl, until it hung in the air at the end of her question, and Adah winced a little, blaming the profession and the fact that it was actually a real injury and not just some kid wasting her time.
Re: Exam One -- H.M. Murdock
"What's yours?"
Re: Exam One -- H.M. Murdock
That was a simple thing that she still had trouble with, and she started to carefully start feeling around the boy's foot and ankle, listening for sounds of pain while feeling for swelling.
Re: Exam One -- H.M. Murdock
He didn't resist her handling of his foot. It wasn't painful, until...
"Ouch!"
Even if he had been trying to play tough, he couldn't have covered that up. It hurt when she moved his ankle that way. "That hurt," he said, voice quivering. "Can you..." that wasn't a wee sniffle, really, "make it go away?"
Re: Exam One -- H.M. Murdock
She decided to just avoid the question about her own obvious owie.
Re: Exam One -- H.M. Murdock
It would so stink to be stuck not being able to play. He didn't like that idea. He liked playing!
"Do you like to play, Adah?"

"You're nice," he blurted out suddenly, "I like you."

Clearly.
Re: Exam One -- H.M. Murdock
Though he wouldn't have minded seeing Adah again, he didn't want to have to come back to the clinic with its cold rooms, either.
"Nuthin' wrong wit' it t'all," he agreed, nodding.

Cocking his head a little, he looked at her. "Are you gonna have one too?"

Re: Exam One -- H.M. Murdock
Geesh, why did these kids' rhymes have to be so morbid?

"Yes," she said, simply, and left it at that. The kid wasn't bleeding, so she was sure that whatever he wanted wasn't urgent.
Re: Exam One -- H.M. Murdock

She also wondered if there was something in the way he spoke that just brought out something cultural, and that was almost why she was fond of the kid. Common colloquialisms from her background like y'here would never, ever work its way into her vocabulary otherwise.
