Doogie was making rounds through the clinic today, checking on Cameron, checking on the inventory, and making sure the other exam rooms were clean and tidy. It was a good way to stay occupied, he thought.

Zoe wanted to make sure she checked in on Cameron again, and this time, she did as she'd promised, and brought Grace with her.

"You're looking better," she remarked as she came in.

Cameron startled for an instant, then instantly jumped off of the bed. "Thank you, ma'am," he said, eyes going towards Grace and he grinned. "You brought her."

"Yes, I did," Zoe said. "Grace, this is Cameron Mitchell. Can you say hello?"

Grace flailed a little in Zoe's arms and made a babbling noise at Cameron.

Cameron couldn't help but grin at the noises and he stepped closer, stooping down a little to be level with Grace. "Hey, Grace," he said softly, reaching to touch his finger to her hand. "It's nice to finally meet you."

Ooh, a finger! Grace latched on as soon as he touched her hand.

"Are you sure you should be out of bed?" Zoe asked.

Honestly? He hadn't bothered to ask. He shrugged. "Been going crazy lying around," he admitted sheepishly, his attention going back to Grace. "She's gorgeous."

"Well, of course she is. She takes after her mother," Zoe teased.

"I was going to say that, but I didn't want to be too obvious, ma'am," he smiled and wriggled his fingers to get Grace's attention. "Can you say 'Uncle Cam'?"

"Hey, I'm still trying to get her to say 'Mama'. Let's work on one phrase at a time," Zoe said, laughing.

"Yeah, but it will be weird if she calls me that," he joked and he reached up to stroke her cheek as he wrinkled his nose at her.

Grace babbled at Cameron and turned her head to try to catch his finger with her mouth.

"No one gets to be Mama but me," Zoe said. "You may not look your best, but you haven't gone girly on us either."

Cameron pulled his finger away and bopped Grace's nose instead. "No, I think I'll leave that to Grace. She'll handle it with a lot more style than I would."

"She can stay a baby for as long as she wants though. She's already growing too fast for me," Zoe said, smiling. "I think she likes you."

"I like her," he grinned up at Zoe. "If you ever need a babysitter..."

"...you might be one of the few people outside of the family that I think I could trust with her," Zoe replied.

"I used to watch my sister when I was younger," he said, the sentence having started enthusiastically, but the words trailed off and he concentrated on Grace for a moment. "Thank you, ma'am. That means a lot."

Zoe smiled as she watched Cameron. "Are you getting out today? If you can get out of bed, you can probably rest up elsewhere."

"Can I tell the doc you said that?" he joked and he made a funny face at Grace to see if he could get her to laugh. "I'll be leaving with Sam once I can go. She's offered me a place to stay."

"That's very nice of her," Zoe said watching Grace squeal and giggle at him. "This place has a phone, yes? So you can make sure you let me know you're doing all right?"

He grinned at Grace's reaction, not sure exactly why this was cheering him up but he wasn't going to think it to death. "It should," he nodded. "Is that a request to get bugged, ma'am?"

"A very strong request," Zoe replied.

"I'll see what I can do," he promised and leaned closer to Grace, wriggling his finger. "And you've got to learn how to say 'uncle Cam' soon so I can talk to you too, okay?"

Grace's eyes followed his finger as she wiggled in Zoe's arms.

"If she does learn how to say it, I'll make sure to get her on the phone sometime," Zoe promised, laughing.

"I'm holding you to that, ma'am," he grinned and bopped Grace on the chin this time. "You're going to grow up and be as kickass as your mom, aren't you?"

He may have had a new crush there.
