FTEC: Friday Evening

Katara made her way through the usual rounds and tasks at the clinic before she settled down at the front desk with the box of chocolates and some paper.

Now if she could only figure out how exactly one wrote a letter without sounding very silly.

It was turning out to be another pretty slow and boring night at the record store, so Chad put Flopsy in charge for a bit (yes, he put the cat in charge) so that he and Prince Oscar Pedro could go down to the clinic and say high to the BRE. A very, very short visit, that he hoped would be appreciated and wouldn't last long, and that had nothing to do with Chad's faith in Flopsy's abilities.

"Hey, you." Chad came in, but made sure he had a good, clear shot of the door if he felt the need to leave straight away.

Figuring that Katara would ask that (and actually impressed that it wasn't the first thing out of her mouth), Chad shook his head and held up a hand in a sort of assuring gesture. "No," he said. "I think Prince Oscar Pedro," who was, as usual, perched on his shoulder, "might have hurt his head or something; this was his idea."

That's right, Chad. Blame the cat.

Prince Oscar Pedro let out a meow in response, one that worked with dual intention. Part of it was objectionable that he did not look cross-eyed and, if he did, it was all Chad's fault because they were playing with the laser light pointer thing and those things couldn't be good for his ocular health. The other was to get Chad's attention that he needed help, because up on Chad's shoulder was too high to make the transition into Katara's reach a smooth one. So Chad picked him up and handed him over, and Katara would find those cuddles very soon thereafter.

"I think he missed you."

Katara was definitely getting a chin heavily nuzzled by a kitty-face, accompanied by a lot of purring. Chad, meanwhile, sighed. "Boring. Mostly dead. It's driving me crazy..."

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-02-09 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Chad blinked, and then stared at Katara for a little while. At least, it could be assumed that he was staring, because he didn't move for a while, but his eyes were covered by his hair. And then, he spoke.

"That's....a really good idea, Katara." He might have to bug Melody about that sometime next week. She'd probably love it, too. And, of course, he'd totally give Katara props for it. He knew she was the best roommate ever for a reason.

Even if she did work at a clinic.

What Prince Oscar Pedro lacked in fuzzy, though, he definitely made up for in affection.

Chad grunted, nodding. "Would make it a lot less lonely over that sometimes, too," he said. He knew he had the kittens and everything, but...

Chad's shoulders shifted, slightly, as he tried to make the decision of what would be worse. Staying any longer in a clinic than he had to, or going back to the store where all he had to do was think about everything that'd been going on with Teddy...

Hey, Chad was going to stick to his story.

"He wouldn't shut up about you."

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-02-09 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Prince Oscar Pedro responded by licking Katara's nose, which got a grin even out of Chad. "Should I leave you two alone to discuss this?"

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-02-09 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Chad looked a bit doubtful. "Well," he said. "Guess I should make sure he doesn't say anything uncalled for..."

Prince Oscar Pedro, oblivious to any drama that he was apparently a part of, was now batting lightly at Katara's hair.

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-02-09 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
But...but....but the hair loopies were just looping there, begging to be played with!

"You want me to take him?" Chad offered. "Should probably get back, just in case. Flopsy's good with the register, but not so much with counting."

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-02-09 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
And Chad?

Might have had a whole new idea on how to spend the rest of his shift.

Prince Oscar Pedro didn't seem too keen on giving up on the cuddling, and Chad didn't have hair loopies, but, after some squirming, he finally agreed to settle down on Chad's shoulder.

"Kay, then. See you later, roomie. Careful on the way back and everything."

The water of the pond had woken Luke up from having a wall dropped on him. So he was fine. Really.

He'd told Jaina and Anakin that repeatedly as they hauled him towards the clinic.

Maybe Katara would believe him. "Hi!" he said, giving her a bleary smile. "I had a little wall fall on me, but I'm fine now. Can I go home?"

"It was a regular-sized wall," Anakin said, pursing his lips, "and it was thrown pretty hard."

"I tried," Luke whined, following her.

Luke looked at the three people in the exam room with him and tried again. "I'm fine."

Luke totally giggled inappropriately.

Luke was bruised up and his head had definitely taken a good beating--like she hadn't figured that out already--but nothing was broken.

"That's neat," he chirped.

Luke made a face. "But I don't want to."

"Artoo can do it," he said quickly. "He doesn't sleep."

Luke nodded, eyes wide and innocent.

"Thank you, Katara," Luke said, giving her a grin and sliding carefully off of the exam table.

It would hardly do to get sprung from the clinic and fall on his face trying to leave.
