FTEC, Tuesday, August 21 - Day Shift

Christian had the clinic TV on the weather channel, watching the updates about Hurricane Dean. Living in Miami had given him a healthy respect for the power of Mother Nature, though he'd probably couch it in terms like "bitch" and "PMS."

Then again, he could be watching because the attractive female reporter on scene was wearing a white shirt and getting very wet.

The doctor is in.

Stan was in his office, again skritching a cat. Was it the same one from last week? Quite possibly. He may have been gathering data on the efficacy of animal stimulus in the therapy setting. Or? Sometimes a kitty is just a kit--ohshe'socute!

Billy was ~~totally here on time and not a day lat zomg~~ still feeling very triumphant about his encounter with Umbrage. So much so that he'd forgotten about not being able to speak intelligibly by the time he got to his appointment.

"Ah, Mr. Kessler. How are you today?" Stan's good. He's got a kitty curled up in his arms and he's ~~skritching her tummy~~ performing essential psychiatric therapy to her.

"~~I'm good actually~~ Gin foot dangle." Billy smiled. Then blinked and facepalmed. Oh yeah, the hex. Ah well, he wasn't going to let it ruin his good mood.

Kitty!Mary recognized the other guy who gave good skritches, and flopped down into his lap with an 'adore me' aire.

"I'm sorry, I didn't quite catch that," he said, his eyebrows raising. He seemed in a good mood.

"~~But I enunciated so clearly.~~ Squeegee ni bumble mike niffle." Billy snickered, and mimed writing with a pencil.

Stan tossed him a fresh notebook with a pencil in the spiral. He made notations on his own notebook, circling "word salad" several times.

"Has anything unusual happened lately?" Best to go with the direct question.

got called into pinky's office. she did this. I still think I won though Billy wrote.

"I see. This is a result of her actions? This 'word salad'? You can understand what I'm asking, yes?"

Billy nodded. some kinda magic wand

Stan crosses out his note to look 'word salad' up in the DSM. "This is the woman mentioned on the radio? There are differing accounts on her, and none seem to be positive. What is this 'pink' to which everyone refers?"

wears it, painted the office it. I think she's trying to compensate

"That does sound a bit...unusual. ~~Does she dress like a psychotic bitch Jackie-O?~~ And I see that either you're playing a hell of a joke, have actual word salad, or have been adversely affected by this...woman."

the last one. she's very childish.

"Hrm. Did she give any indication as to how long the affects of this...whatever she did? And yet, you seem pleased."

The good doctor may have to have a conversation with this woman over the proper way to deal with people.

no clue. I'm happy because i've been mad at her for a long time, but I didn't lose my temper.

"That is cause for celebration. Was this in retaliation for something or just out of the blue?"

out of the blue. granted i've been disobeying her decrees, wearing seditious t-shirts and painted her office, but she didn't know that. she really made it sound like it was just for the hell of it. also smiling because she never made me admit to breaking any of her rules.

"So you stuck to your guns and damn the torpedoes, eh?" he said. "As long as you accept the consequences for actions, it sounds like you've done well."

wasn't even a consequence of that. she picked me at random I think

"Next time, it may be a better option to misplace her room number or forget about the appointment. I believe you got very lucky, Mr. Kessler."

that's the plan next time

"Good. I expect not to hear of any more contact between you and that woman, whatever she's calling herself. Is there anything else you wish to discuss? Any other developments?"

Billy thought. i've told a # of people about my dad. not my cover story, the truth.

"How have they reacted? How have you reacted to telling them?"

felt good. for the most part they've been rather protective. all have been sympathetic. not why I told them though. But then he pause. well not the main reasin

"And the main reason?" This sounded like a good breakthrough.

I started to worry that if dad did show up, what with my cover story and all, no one would know to warn me, or to look for me if I suddenly turned up missing.

"So you've created an early warning system through those you trust? Wise."

Billy nodded. "~~Exactly~~ Pretzle."

Stan blinked rapidly. This was going to take some time getting used to. "You're feeling secure enough to open up to people, tell beyond the cover story to those you trust. That is certainly making some progress."

Billy beamed. thank you

"I would say to keep up the good work, and try to fly low on the radar for a while, with respect to certain personages."

Billy nodded. sounds good.

"Excellent. Anything more for today?" Stan smiled at the lad.

Billy shook his head. "~~Nope, I think that's it.~~ Fins, ni linen sally ink."

"I'm going to interpret that as 'I'm good for this week, I'll see you next Tuesday,'" he said with a smile.
