Christian had placed an ad in the Fandom Town classifieds seeking student aides to help man the clinic. With recent departures, they were becoming more and more short-staffed (particularly when certain doctors disappeared without notice).

He still couldn't believe he'd used the words "magical healing ability" in the ad.

Katara wandered down to the clinic after seeing note in the paper. It might have been the fact that she was gleeful about being able to read the note that made her come down. Or just the possibility of being able to scold people for getting hurt.

She opened the door to the clinic hesitantly. "Dr. Troy?"

Christian looked up from his paperwork. "Yes, can I help you?"

"Hi! You said you needed student aides for the clinic?" she said, coming in more fully and looking around. "I can heal, do you still need people?"

"By heal, do you mean by magic?" Christian said, looking Katara over as he waved his hand toward the chair in front of his desk to indicate her to sit down. "Or do you have some medical training?"

Katara wrinkled her nose. "Magic? No. I'm a waterbender." She caught herself and explained. "I can manipulate water, and one of the things I can do with it is heal. I can't heal a broken arm completely or a stomach wound or something. But I can heal little things. And my Gran Gran taught me other healing methods." She frowned. "But I don't think you probably use herbs and roots and stuff here."

"We used to have one crazy old witch who did," Christian said. He shrugged. "If it works and doesn't do any further harm to the patient. . . ."

He pulled out a notepad. "What's your name? Do you think you could deal with a seriously injured patient until a doctor could get here?"

"Katara," she answered promptly. "And yep! I can stablise them absolutely. I just don't know how to completely heal all at once."

"What's your phone number?" Christian said, writing down Katara's name. "And do you have a teacher or someone I could call just to verify your abilities? There aren't any patients in the clinic right now so I can't have you demonstrate."

She gave the phone number to him. "No one else here is a waterbender," Katara said. "Or do you want a regular teacher? Anakin was my mentor. I healed Chad once in the clinic here though? And other people around the school."

Christian nodded and wrote the information down, making a mental note to check Chad's medical records as well. "A regular teacher is fine, I just need to make sure you can do what you claim to do. What is your availability? Are there particular days you can't work?"

"I work at the post office on Wednesday during the day," Katara said. "But other than that, I just have classes. With Chad, he was really badly hurt so I just helped take the swelling away so he would hurt less and sleep."

"All right," Christian said. "I'll give your teacher a call, and if everything checks out, the job is yours. I'll let you know and we can discuss what shifts you can take then."

Katara beamed at him. "Thank you so much! I really appreciate it."

She turned to go with a bit of a wave. "Bye, Dr. Troy."
