FTEC, Tuesday, May 22

Things had been so quiet lately that Christian was surprised to find a patient in the clinic. He did a check and made sure he was resting comfortably, then settled behind the front desk for the morning.

Chad was still unconscious from bloodloss.

Or he was just sleeping really heavily as usual.

Hard to tell with him sometimes, but signs pointed to the former.

Katara peeked into the exam room. She saw Chad and glanced back worriedly at Molly. "Definitely still here," she whispered.

Molly peeked around Katara. "Is he awake?" she whispered.

She took a few steps into the room. "I think so. But...it's late even for Chad to be sleeping," she said, still whispering.

Molly followed Katara into the room and walked up next to the bed to look at Chad. "Should we come back later maybe?" Still whispering.

By this point, Chad had been slipping in an out of just sleeping and being out a lot and, when the girls came in, he was in a state where he was kind of awake, but not quite, and he thought he was hearing familiar voices and that started to pull him out a little. He winced, becoming aware of the pain of his wound, and let out a groan, trying to decide if he wanted to bother opening his eyes or not yet.

Katara's hand had already gone back to her waterskin as she got to the bed. "Chad? Are you up?" she asked very softly, wanting to try to heal him of whatever was wrong. "Or should we go away?"

"Chad?" Molly said gently. "Do you need anything?"

A groan of a response lead into an undistinguished mumble as Chad opened his eyes alittle and thought it was much too bright in here. Absentmindedly, he went to lift his hand to his eyes, with the arm on the wounded side, and then really thought better of that, because ow. He blinked a little, groggily, as he tried to make out who was there.

Although, really, didn't matter who it was. "M'fine," he assured them. While feeling not fine at all, but, y'know....they didn't need to know that.

"It's Katara and Molly," she said, frowning. "And you don't sound fine. "What happened to you?"

Molly looked Chad over, trying to see if she could figure out how he was injured. There didn't appear to be any broken bones though.

"Ummm..." Chad's mind was really scattered at the moment; he felt all special because Katara and Molly were visiting him and he was trying to remember what happened, all while trying to dodge around a lot of freaking pain. What did happen? He shifted a little to feel the injury more, thinking that would help him figure it out. Oh, yeahhhh....

"Got stabbed." Pause. "Run-through's probably better way of puttin' it..." He grunted again. Talking kinda hurt, too. Good thing he didn't do much of it. And he wanted to kind of go back to sleep again, but not with that pain....

"While at school?" Katara sounded a bit shocked. She swallowed as she thought about what that might do to a person. "It sounds way too big for me to heal, Chad, but I could take some of the pain away if you didn't mind."

"Who stabbed you?" Molly asked. "Did you get them? Are they in jail?"

Chad grunted as his hand moved up, like, an inch to dismissively wave Katara's off. "M'okay, really," he told her. "Dunno who it...was." A deep, heavy, pained sigh interupted his string of speech. "Passed out after I punched 'em."

And he hoped he got the bastard good, but that just made him realize something that would have had him sitting up, if the contraction of muscles to do so failed and he grimaced from the pain of them trying. He fought past it, though. "Is...Is Teddy okay? He's...he's okay, right?" There was panic in his voice. And anger, because he couldn't really move.

"He's not in the clinic," Katara said. "So he must be okay. I bet he had class."

She saw Chad was trying to sit up and immediately moved closer to put one hand firmly on his shoulder. "Stay laying down. And let me heal you."

Molly moved around to Chad's other side. "Teddy will come. Don't worry."

Chad made a sound that was half grunt, half groan, closing his eyes and leaning his head back into his pillow. "D..don't worry about it," he insisted. He was just glad Teddy was okay, really....he'd be okay, too...

"Don't be stupid, Chad," Katara said, violating possibly every rule of 'how to have a bedside manner.' She pulled a flow of water out of her waterskin and concentrating fiercely covered her hand with the water.

It glowed brightly for a long second as Katara focused on feeling the places where his chi was flowing incorrectly. She tried to convince it to flow well and smoothly. There was too much damage though for her to do more than speed up the healing just a bit and get rid of much of the pain for now.

She lowered her hand and took a step back, trying to regain focus.

Molly watched with fascination as Katara used her waterbending to help Chad. "Cool!" she said quietly when Katara was all done.

Chad snorted a bit; he grinned, though it was part grimace because, while a lot of the pain was gone now, snorting kind of hurt. Almost as bad as Orihime, but he was definitely grateful. "Thanks, Best Roomie Ever."

And there was a spazzy Teddy who, despite watching over him all night, still wasn't assured Chad wouldn't keel over and die on him.

He really hoped those dingbots could handle the shop for a little bit because he was not about to leave again.

If needed.

The doc waited in his office for his usual patients.

And here Billy dutifully was.

"Greetings, Mr. Kessler. How was your week?"

"Pretty uneventful actually. How was yours?"

"It was dull. And enjoyable." He gave a small smile.

Billy nodded. "So, uhm...hmm..." he wasn't sure what to talk about just now.

"Did you make contact with your Smaller Sibling and see how bad his culture shock was?" Stan opened.

"Oh! Yeah. He's still not convinced that the weirdness is real. I'm not sure how to, well convince him without freaking him out."

"When you figure that out, please tell me," he said. "I barred the doors during the children weekend."

Billy snickered. "Might be just as well."

"I don't--I'm fairly certain none were belonging to myself," he said. "Or none said so."

"Okay see now I'm picturing a little four year old psychoanalyzing everyone they came across."

"And that's an image that I'm trying not to picture myself. For fear it comes true." He smiled.

"So, Mr. Kessler. Reminiscing about the children or missing the children?"

"I do miss them." Billy said. "But I still think I'll see them again someday."

"That does give you something to look forward to, to work for," Stanley nodded.
