FTEC, Saturday Evening, March 17

Since Dr. Wilson was in New York City, Doogie came in to cover his shift, and used the time to get a head start on his weekend crossword puzzle.

Except... not kidding.

Very very slowly, the dream of the moon kingdom faded into the reality of slight buzzing. Ami wasn't sure what was buzzing, but she could hear it. Her eyes were glued shut as if she had them closed for along time, but when she tried to reach with her hand to rub them she could not. Consciousness returned slowly, and with it discomfort and pain. If Ami could scream she would, but instead she only made vague noises and grunts.

Luckily, it was time for Doogie's regular check up on Ami, and he shot to her bedside as soon as he heard her. "Miss Mizuno?" he said carefully. "Try to calm down, it's all right."

Ami heard a voice. It was addressing her, and in
English. this was very unlieke everything she had been hearing lately. She did calm down slightly though, just knowing someone was there.

Doogie checked her vitals, and sure enough, it seemed like she was waking up. "Ami? Can you hear me?" He asked. "You can just nod if you can't quite talk yet."

Ami was totally unaware that at some point Dr. Troy had hooked her up to feeding tubes and IV stands, which explained why she couldn't talk or move much. but she did hear and so she nodded. Very slightly.

"Okay, good," Doogie said smoothly. "Just hold still, and I'll see if I can't get you a little less tangled up." He gave her a soft smile and carefully began removing the feeding tubes, leaving the IV in place for the moment.

Doogie knew it wasn't particularly pleasant, so he tried to be as quick as he could, leaving Ami with just the IV. "There, I hope that feels better," he said. "Are you in pain?" he asked, anxious to get her as comfortable as possible.

Ami had to actually think about that. She shook her head and tried to speak. Unfortunately only raspy intermittent sounds escaped. Her throat was rather dry. She shook her head again, reinforcing the notion that she was not in pain really.
