FTEC - Wednesday Day Shift [12/13]

Grumbling about the weather -it should have been snow damn it!- Wilson ducked into the clinic on Wednesday morning. It was a minor grumbling though because he was still smiling as a result of Pippi's celebration of Santa Lucia. That, had definitely been a wonderful start to his morning.

Talking briefly with the night nurse to learn the status of the clinic -quiet, thank God- Wilson started himself a pot of coffee and settled down behind the front desk to start researching his next paper.

The laptop was definitely getting a work out today as Wilson flipped through the material he needed for his next paper.

While the clinic was quiet and Wilson worked diligently on his laptop, a wee paper duck crawled out of his briefcase and scrambled up the young doctor's sleeve until it perched on his shoulder. There, it snuggled up next to the collar of his lab coat and fell asleep, snoozing tiny papery snores.

Before she headed to the school, Zoe went to the clinic, and tried not to look like there were about a dozen places on the island that she'd rather be.

Wilson might have been absently giving a wee paper duckie a scritch as he continued to work on his laptop but the sound of the door opening brought his head up and he blinked when he say Zoe there.

"Dean Washburn, good morning."

"Good morning," Zoe replied, with as much brightness as she could muster. "Are you terribly busy?"

Giving his head a shake, Wilson carefully reached up and transferred the snoozing origami duck to the pocket of his labcoat.

"Not at the moment, what can I do for you?"

"Well, I thought I had a bit of the flu," she explained. "But that was right before the trolls showed up, and I still don't feel particularly well. I thought maybe I'd get myself checked out."

Dark brows knitted together worriedly and Wilson tapped a few keys on his laptop and then stood up.

"Come on back to the exam room (http://community.livejournal.com/fandom_clinic/248721.html?thread=6977937#t6977937) and let me take a quick look."

Flu could linger, especially if you worked in a high stress position like Zoe did but it could also quickly morph into pneumonia or something equally nasty so it was best to get it checked out.

Wilson held the door for Zoe and motioned her towards the exam table.

"Have a seat. Now, have you been running a fever?"

Zoe sat down and shook her head. "No, thankfully. Mostly, I've just been feeling tired and achy, even when I know I've gotten enough rest. And there's been some unpleasant throwing up, but that might just be from the cafeteria food," she added with a hint of a smile.

Setting down a chart to make notes in, Wilson picked up his stethescope and blood pressure cuff and came back over to the table. Going about the standard vitals check, he stuck the stethescope in his ears to listen to Zoe's lungs.

"Deep breaths..." As he listened he continued to talk. "Can you describe the ache? Is it hard to keep food down any time you try to eat?"

He returned the smile with a brief chuckle and a knowing wink. "How about when you don't eat at the cafeteria?"

Zoe followed his instructions, feeling more than a little thankful that there was at least one person at the clinic she felt comfortable around. "I ache all over, like I'm exhausted, but a lot of it's in my chest too. And I'm not really having trouble keeping food down. I've just been feeling ill in the morning, right when I wake up," she admitted.

Urk.

"Mmm." Wilson said in that universal doctory stall tactic for coming up with a suitable way to approach a delicate question.

"Would you describe the ache in your chest as an ache, like...you'd been coughing hard and had a hard time breathing? Or more a tenderness, a sensitivity to touch or feel."

Zoe wasn't sure if that was a good noise or a bad noise that Wilson made. "More of a tenderness. Very tender, as a matter of fact."

Wilson gave a small cough then turned to make sure that the exam room door was shut against any possible squirrel ears.

Crossing his arms over his chest, he gave Zoe a warm if slightly rueful grin.

"Please forgive the forwardness of this question but...are you currently sexually active?"

Because of all the questions he'd ever expected to be asking his boss, are you sexually active really wasn't at the top of the list for proper office topics.

[ooc: Uh...cause...umm...I like that wording better. *nodnod and hopes Zoe doesn't shoot Wilson for being nosey!*]

"Well, I'm not active at this exact moment," she said, attempting for some dry humor to combat her growing nervousness. "But, in general, yes, I am. We've been safe though. There was just one time that we might not have been quite as careful as usual."

[ooc: *snicker* that wording works very well. *g*]

Wilson had the sense of humor to chuckle at her dry shot and he nodded before looking at her with an expression of concern and perhaps a hint of dismay.

Cause as all the health classes will tell you...it only takes once and yes, in fact you can on your first time.

"Let me draw some blood, run some tests just to rule some things out. In the meantime, I'll give you a multivitamin injection that should help with the fatigue."

And if you are...*cough*...it will be beneficial in that direction as well. Because he didn't want to prescribe any anti flu medications even OTCs until he knew, one way or the other.

Zoe simply nodded, trying not to get too visibly worried, despite having a pretty good idea of what Wilson would be looking for "Those both sound fine," she said, managining another smile. "Thank you."

"Of course." He said with a reassuring and understanding smile. "Do you want me to call you with the results or stop by your office?"

As he spoke, he turned towards the counter and pulled out everything he needed to draw the blood and also give the vitamin shot.

One benefit of having spent a good portion of her adult life fighting was that Zoe wasn't terribly fazed by needles. Not that she enjoyed watching Wilson get everything ready, of course.

"Whatever is easier for you is fine. You don't have to come all the way to my office if you just want to call."

Being a needle phobe himself, Wilson had actually taken great pains to make certain he was good for one stick, one stick only and the blood draw and the little vitamin shot were taken care of quickly and hopefully, mostly painlessly.

"I should have results by tomorrow. I'll run the labs myself tonight." He said, giving her a quick look to reassure her that he wouldn't just pass off the lab work to a nurse.

"I'm up at the school for class anyway so it shouldn't be any trouble."

"Thank you," Zoe said, feeling a bit more relived at knowing that Wilson would be handling the tests. "I'll be in my office all day, I'm sure."
