Trevor was sitting at the front desk, his cup of coffee nearly forgotten as he caught up on everyone who had been in the clinic over the weekend.

River was sitting curled up in a corner of the room, her hands over her ears. That didn't work to shut out the memories. She had closed her eyes, but that didn't work either.

Pippi isn't quite sure what it was all about last night, but she isn't the sort to make assumptions and just give up on people.

She carefully poked her head into the room, uncertain if River would want to see her.

More thoughts. Not her own, but in this room. River looked up and saw Pippi. Then she looked down again. "Tried to help, not hurt. Bad mistake," she mumbled.

"I figured it was something like that." Pippi said coming into the room. "What did you think happened?"

"You were gone," River said, still crouching in the corner. "Someone else was there. Bad thoughts."

Her mind was spinning with thoughts and images, and she found it hard to put together the sentences coming out of her mouth.

"That happened at the beginning of summer." Pippi said. "That someone else is long gone. You don't have to worry about her. I was just thinking about how glad I was she was gone." Pippi explained, venturing to reach out and smooth her hair. "Have you always been able to hear what people are thinking about?"

"Not before..." River didn't want to think of that place, "...the Academy. They made me hurt people. And hear thoughts."

River nodded and looked down at her hands, her fingers outstretched. "Two by two, hands of blue. They are still here."

River didn't know what to call them. "They gave me things to do. I have to follow. Can't not to. Trapped." She looked miserable.
