Christian opened up the clinic a bit late.

After days of lying deadly quiet and doing absolutely nothing, Buffy started shifting in bed, murmuring.

Sam had come by that morning, as he had each morning since she was brought in, and sat down by her bed to just watch her rest for a bit. He was used to the silence by now, so when she started shifting, it was enough to nearly get him out of the chair.

"Hey," he said quietly. "Buffy?"

"Mrrf mmm asbestos I swear grrff," Buffy replied, turning around. Her eyes were still closed and she was obviously not awake yet.

Sam laughed softly and leaned over to kiss Buffy gently on the forehead. "No asbestos. It's time to wake up."

Her eyes opened and she gave him a sleepily puzzled look. "Lots and lots of asbestos, I swear." She shook her head, frowning. No, that wasn't right.

Then she remembered and sat bolt upright. "Scorpion!"

"Whoa, hey!" Sam put his hands on Buffy's shoulders to catch her and try to ease her back down to the bed. "It's okay, the scorpion's gone."

She didn't fight him, but she did give him a suspicious look. "Big, evil scorpion all slayed?"

"Yup. Along with all of his mummy and scarab friends. All flattened and fried and everything." Sam smiled. "You're in the clinic now."

"The clinic?" Her face changed and she started looking around, panicking. "With the doctors and stuff? But I'm not sick!" She tried to sit up again. "I want to go home."

"Oh no you don't," Sam replied, using a little more force to push Buffy down fully. "You're not going anywhere. You've been out for almost three days. You might not be sick, but you're definitely not well." He sounded concerned, and looked even moreso.

"Yes, you're awake now, and that's a wonderful thing. But you need to have someone look at you to make sure you're okay." He leaned in and gave her a light kiss, hoping that would calm her down a little.

It worked, but she still looked very ill at ease. She reached out for his hand. "Don't let the doctors take me."

Sam gladly took her hand, giving it a squeeze. "I promise, I won't let the doctors take you anywhere. I'm going to go find one to check on you, so I'll be right back, okay?"

Christian ran some handwavey tests. "You're right, you have a sprained shoulder," he said. "The ribs look a little tender but they'll be okay."
