FTEC, Tuesday Night

Natalie was still a bit groggy, having had a rough sleep during the day. She had just drifted off soundly for the first time when her alarm sounded. Arriving at the clinic for her shift, she settled in with her laptop and The Thin Man in the background. The box set of sequels was ready for the rest of the evening.

After getting Piper settled, Veronica led Lindsey (http://marsheadtilt.livejournal.com/54424.html?thread=1296280#t1296280) into the clinic to get his hand checked.

"... all I'm saying is you're the only one that needed to go to the clinic," Veronica was saying when they entered. "Chloe, Phoebe and I all emerged relatively unscathed."

Cradling his hand to his chest, Lindsey turned to glare at Veronica.

"Think maybe your disappearing act with Paige helped with that just a little? And hey, I provided an excellent distraction. So that's something, right?"

"I was the first one that tried to distract her from killing Bel!" Veronica protested. "And I'm the one the figured out what was really going on."

"So what if you jumped in first? Your thirty second headstart means nothing except you've got superior reflexes. Or maybe it just means you're more willing to do stupid things like throwing yourself in between two demons," Lindsey fired back. "And you cheated. With the figuring things out. No fair using your mad detective skills when the rest of us don't have any!"

"You and your buddy are both lucky I have mad detective skills," Veronica retorted. "Or else you might both be dead!"

Lindsey didn't have anything useful to say to that. So he just went with what he had.

"Shut up."

Veronica laughed. "Wow, nice comeback," she said. "I totally get what Piper sees in you."

"I have better material when my girlfriend hasn't tried to snap my hand off my arm. Honestly. Try me again tomorrow, see what happens."

Nat rounded the corner from the lab, having talked herself into doing some actual work. She looked up from a result sheet, surprised at having patients. "Let me guess: Fandom strikes again?" A lopsided smile curved her lips.

"My girlfriend tried to break my hand off," Lindsey said. "She was kind of turning into a demon at the time though. That count as Fandom striking?"

"Definitely," Nat said with a nod. "Come on. Let's get you into the exam room, and take a look at it." She gestured toward exam 1 and led the way.

"Later, Lindsey!" Veronica said as the doctor led him to the exam room. She was already late for work.

Exam 1

Nat entered the room and switched on the lights. "Up on the table, if you please." She took a seat on the stool and rolled over to the table.

Lindsey obediently hopped up onto the table, wincing a little as it jarred his arm.

"Not gonna fall off or anything, is it? Might make finals a little difficult."

"I don't think so," Natalie replied. She slipped on a pair of examination gloves, then gently reached to take his hand. "So how did this happen?" Her fingers probed the joints and checked for stability.

"Good thing," Lindsey said, trying not to wince too much. "Ow. It was just your usual teenage hijinks. Girl starts to turn into demon, tries to kill other demon, ow, very stupid boyfriend jumps in the way and gets nothing but hand trauma for his troubles."

Natalie winces sympathetically. "Definite trauma to the wrist, and clearly to the shoulder." She moved his arm gently, verifying her diagnosis. "I'll prescribe an anti-inflammatory and get you a sling."

"And that will make it stop feeling like it might fall off, right? 'Cause I'm not enjoying that part too much."

Retrieving a sling and two packets of medication from a locked cabinet in the room, she returned and helped Lindsey into the sling. "It might take a day or two to fully kick in, but it should start easing the pain after the first dose." She handed him the packets. "One pill, once a day, with meals. If they make you sick, eat more with them, or grab an antacid."

"Once a day. Got it. And thanks," Lindsey said as he climbed off the table.
"So I'm free to go now, right?"

"Yup. Come back in a week. I'll want to take a look and see how you're recovering." Nat smiled, snapping off the gloves. "And be careful of the girlfriend. She's got the strength of an ox."

"Yes ma'am," Lindsey answered. "And I am always careful of the girlfriend ever since she blew up my fridge..."

And with that, he headed out the door.
