Trevor checked on the patients left in the clinic, making sure they were still pleasantly alive or as dead as they should be, before setting up for the rest of his shift.

The demon ventured out of the hotel for the first time in a while. The brat needed some torment...or whatever one would call how he treated her.

He came in quietly and sat at her bedside, an unlit cigarette pursed between his lips.

Her mother had stepped out for a walk around town while she had slept, but some notion of another presence woke Kiki up.

"Mr. Crowley?" she said sleepily, before her eyes had opened fully. She woke up completely. "Mr. Crowley! Now what on earth would bring you here, of all places?"

Not, of course, that she couldn't guess already.

"Oh, you know, pest. Angels of mercy are in short supply 'round here. Thought I'd see what mischief I could get up to in their absence."

Kiki grinned. "Plenty, I'm sure! Where do you plan to start?" Kiki's hair was down, the red ribbon neatly folded on the table beside her bed.

"Here's as wicked as any, what?" he said with a sly grin. "I'm sure you've been a bitter pill of a patient. Nothing but a pain in the doctor's back side. And you're positively hideous without that obnoxious bow. You ought to wear it...it detracts the eye from your face."

He was trying so very hard to sound mean. Pity he failed miserably.

"Well, according to those who know about these things, I guess I was more or less entirely out of it from Friday til yesterday. It's probably true, considering I don't remember much of it." Kiki picked up the bow and carefully tied it around her head. "There. Slightly less hideous?"

"Marvelous, brat." he said flatly, but the corners of his eyes crinkled as he repressed a smile. "So...what mischief landed you in here? Auto wreck? Avacado mishap? Or did you simply become overwrought with your own repugnance?"

"Mostly the later," Kiki admitted. "Coupled with a healthy dose of stupidity." She knew he'd like that. "I was too busy trying to help figure out a way to get Bel out of prison, so I didn't get any sleep. I kept saying, 'Oh, I'll just take some meds and I'll rest this weekend, or once we clear Bel's name...' Well, then Phoebe got kidnapped, and the fastest way to find her was for me to try a locator. I don't really remember much after that, but I guess Bel shimmered me here and Lana stayed with me all night."

"Pest." he said softly, laying a hand on her leg buried under blankets. "I'm not certain your witchery is quite up to that...and for once I'm not being an ass. You need to be more careful. You need training. You need..." he cut off, before he slipped and said something he'd regret.

Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a small red candy.

"A peppermint."

Kiki looked faintly startled for a moment before she smiled sheepishly. "Thanks...I'm sure you're right," she nodded. "But I just couldn't sit around and do nothing..."

She took the peppermint and held it without opening it for a moment. He might as well know it all. "Mom said pretty much the same thing. It's why she's considering taking me home. For a while; more than just a vacation. She said it wasn't that she thought I wasn't handling my magic well, just that this place seems to have...presented more challenges than either of us had expected, I guess. More than I've been trained to deal with." Kiki popped the mint in her mouth and added quietly, "I can't imagine what she'd say if she knew the truth about the balrog."

"I don't think she needs to be told, pest. Not now. That was...yes. Well." he cleared his throat, "Of course you'll lie to her. Not because it's the right thing to do or to spare her heartbreak. No. Do it because you're very wicked and I'm a terrible influence, what?"

"Well, I certainly won't lie to her," Kiki answered. "Which is not to say that I won't just omit...well... if she asks that's one thing. But I don't see any reason to volunteer any information, and see no reason why should think to ask. I've never given her a reason to, or any hint of it."

Kiki is still here - although she anticipates being released tomorrow morning - and so is her mother. They had a rather serious talk (http://kikidelivers.livejournal.com/35748.html) in the afternoon.
