It's noon before he makes it to the clinic.

His last day.

He's sitting at the desk, with a cup of coffee and Johnny Cash on the radio. He'd brought Cash in from town, and the pup in on the floor chewing on a rawhide bone.

Dr is in. Come say goodbye. He's on slowtime unil this evening

House smiled and nodded appropriately as Pippi told him the history of the cane. He held the walking stick in his lap, his palms slowly rolling it over his thighs.

"Ah, one of those." He winked. "Well, I'd never ask yu to betray a confidance, but perhaps I'll researcha nd see what I can find for myself." He grinned.

Pippi was glad that House wasn't the type of person to question what she told him... She knew she was a terrible compulsive fibber... But sometimes? She couldn't help it. It just wasn't as picturesque to imagine the cane being carved during the day.

She tucked her feed up onto the edge of the desk and put her chin on her knees.

"So are you going to stick around town a while, or are you going to slink away into the night before we have a chance to do something horrible like throw you a party?"

House swallowed hard and his eyes went big. "You...You don't have to do that." He smiled, once he recovered from the shock of the suggestion. He was truly touched.

"I'm Pippi Longstocking or haven't you heard? I don't have to do anything. I do what I want to do... Don't you like parties? Or are you afraid to be confronted by just how many people actually care about you? ;)"

House pulled her in to an impulsive hug. "You are a brat, you know that? I'm really gonna miss you. Shut up. Why would you think that? I'm just an old cranky jerk with a cane and a medical lisence"

Pippi grinned and hugged him back. "Why I never would have guessed it was so. Thank you Greg, for letting me profit in the knowledge of myself."

Still holding onto him she look up.

"I'm gonna miss you too, I'll miss you terribly. But it's not like you don't know where I live. You can write can't you? I've never been the one to stay when the other person goes. Why my postcard collection is nonexistent! That's certainly not fair now is it? It's quite a good thing I have you to help me fix that."

"You better go buy a bulletin board, then, because I'm going to send you a lot of post cards." He grinned at her. How she made him smile when he was feeling so rotten was just one of her charms.

"Can't. Wait." she said, actually, she could wait. But she wasn't saying that.

"So, where ya going?"

"I'm moving to a place called Tropolis. I have a couple friends there." No need to mention they were moving there this weekend.

Pippi nodded. "Friends are good to have anywhere you go... If you need help moving, you let me know. I'm small, but I'm strong! I should probably go see if Gardening Class is on for today."

She put her hand on his shoulder and looked him in the eye.

"Please don't be a stranger Greg."

Gardening class. Justin. House shook his head.

"Where were you earlier in the week? I had to bribe Professor Chaucer to move most of my things in to town." He smiled. "Go on, you. You don't want to be late for class."

Pippi gave Greg one last hug and scampered out of the Clinic.
