Clinic Hours - Friday December 16th 2005

Wilson had been up late waiting for a call from House and up early waiting for a call from House, spending almost an hour on the phone each time trading the rapid fire medical jargon relating to Dorothy House's condition and then calming House down. Sometimes by coddling him, sometimes by being firm with him and not for the first time Wilson wished he was there but House needed to be with his mother, with as little stress as possible.

So, phone calls.

As he yawned his way through setting up the Clinic, Wilson set up one of Phale's flyers in the window Holiday Gathering at the bookshop and since he hadn't picked up a formal flyer, he made up his own picture of a little group of stick figures carolling to hang beside the flyer with a note Don't forget about the caroling in town this evening! See Michael or Ben to sign up and spend a nice evening in town!

Then he went about brewing coffee while he hummed along with the Boston Pops, Holiday of Wonder musical compilation.

Doctor is in!

A note for the doctors left on the table: Dr. House and/or Dr. Wilson. I am going away for vacation for a week. Have a good holiday! ~Alanna Trebond

Jonathan enters the clinic, hoping to find Dr. Wilson. He helps himself to the coffee. He really hates Christmas music.

"Hello Dr. Wilson," he says, hopping right up on the front desk without spilling a drop of coffee.

I've been naughty.

Grissom takes a seat in the waiting room and he too, hums along to the Pops. He's wearing a bulky sweater and baggier pants than usual, which is not what he generally wears, and his beard is a little fuller as well. Not that he would ever subconciously try to ignore something that was affecting him only to have it mainifest itself in fairly unsubtle methods of denial, not Grissom. Nope. Never.

"I'm well." Grissom, as now was habit, immediately rose from his seat and approached Dr. Wilson, instead of making Wilson come out from behind the desk. "I think the lack of paperwork has something to do with it," he said, gesturing down to Wilson's request form.

"And how are you?"

Grissom smiled as he followed Dr. Wilson into the Exam Room. He eyed a Ranger Rick magazine with a manatee on the cover, but decided it might be best to wait until the treatment started before flipping through it, lest he seem too eager.

"We are, actually. Home to Vegas for a week or so," he said with a peculiar smile. It was odd to describe Vegas as home, as he never truly set down roots there when he was a full-time resident. But it seemed somewhat appropriate now. "And then a few days in San Francisco after the New Year."

"And yourself? Are you going to be able to get away from the Clinic?"

Grissom just gave Wilson the 'of all the people, are you seriously busting my chops too?' look and stretched a little before sitting down.

At Wilson's revelation, Grissom looked quite solemn.

"I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sure that if Dr. House is there with his mother, however, she is receiving the best medical care possible, and it helps to be with those you love," he said, trying to be reassuring. He rolled up his sleeve and continued, a little awkwardly. He'd grown to like and respect Wilson, and felt comfortable with him, and he had true sympathy for him.

"If there's anything I can do..." he trailed off, realizing most students would be a little creeped out having an ex-coroner fix their boo-boos for an afternoon. "I do have a 30 Year Old Laphroiag sitting around getting dusty."

"I've made arrangements for the 30th, through our chief Medical Examiner," he said with smirk. "Desert Palms Hospital. I don't recall the oncologist's name off the top of my head, but I can get you that information." He looked down at his briefcase, thinking for a moment, and then shrugged. The number was definitely in his Rolodex in his apartment.

"We'll be back from San Francisco in time for classes to resume, so my only concern is next week, the 23rd. I'm concerned about my ability to fly right after a treatment."

Grissom did some quick thinking, and figured at this point, he could just have any Criminology students who still needed to pass in their coursework stop by his apartment if he wasn't feeling well enough to get to campus. He'd lost enough weight, and shown too many other signs of being ill, to really be fooling anyone at this point anyway.

"The 22nd would probably be better for both of us. Thank you."

Jonathan looks sheepish for a few moments and just shakes his head.

"Let's not talk about it," he says, "I'm actually here for a kind of specific purpose. I umm, I'm leaving. At the end of the term. For good."

He looks down at his coffee as he says it swinging his feet in front of him.

Jonathan nods, "I just, you know, wanted you to know. I mean, I know we aren't close or whatever," and here he looks up at Dr. Wilson, eye contact firmly established, "but I do like you. You aren't half bad."

Jonathan smiles when Dr. Wilson admits this to him. He can see it in his eyes when he lets that pleasant facade drop. It makes him sigh.

"See Doctor, this is communication, imagine if we'd been able to do this months ago?" he says before running a hand through his hair, "Thank you though. Your opinion really does mean something to me, and not just because you're a world famous oncologist who likely knows what he's talking about when it comes to my abilities or lack thereof."

He smiles again, widely and shakes his head, "Maybe we should leave that alone though. I mean, I won't ever come in here to steal you coffee again."
