New Changes to the Fandom Clinic's OOC Regulations
Greetings and salutations!
Back when I first took over Wilson and joined Fandom High I read a very important OOC admin announcment regarding chronology in the game and the importance of timeline in keeping players from getting frustrated and confused.
This post makes a heck of a lot of sense to me as this is a very big game with multiple players and characters and while a little chaos is expected, organized chaos is what keeps a game running smoothly.
I've noticed over the past couple of weeks that
fandom_clinic is a little challenged in this department, particularly when we have multiple posts put up in the community on the same day.
So, I sat down with
gotcanewillpoke and we talked some things out trying to come up with a good way to protect the integrity of the
fandom_clinic's creative illusion and make it more clear for people threading on the community to track when events are happen or have happened. To this end, a few new rules are going to go into effect on the community.
1)Please read and RESPECT prior threads in the community, before posting a new one.
This is the new Golden Rule. We're not insanely busy. It won't take you a moment to make a quick scan of what's been going on in the Clinic during the day. This way you can incorporate events that have already happened or, more importantly, keep from countering something another player has said/done in the Clinic.
If someone does a scene or plottage where they say, restock the clinic then someone else comes in later and posts that there are no supplies, it is jarring and confusing for players trying to decide which sequence of events to follow. The Clinic does not exist in a vacuum, if something is being done in the clinic, respect it don't just hand wave it away because you want it to be something different. This is called cooperative role-playing and it's vital to a fun game.
Important note
gotcanewillpoke is the sweet one of the pair of us. I'm not so sweet and I will not hesitate to delete posts that blatantly disregard Rule # 1. If there is a reason for it and we've have a reasonable explanation for the break in the illusion, not a problem but if we don’t, the post will come down immediately -or as immediately as I see it- a copy of the post will be sent to the original poster with explanation of why the post came down. Once the post is adjusted, it can be reposted.
And yes, I will pull a post for something as small as House saying he's locked up his lollipops in the apartment and someone comes behind him and posts about stealing them from his desk drawer.
After discussion with
gotcanewillpoke it's been understood that a schedule, while a beautiful idea, really isn't viable for our Clinic. Students are going to post coming in with emergencies and the idea is to have the Clinic manned 24 hours a day and none of us in RL have the time to devote 24hrs to the community, at least I sure as hell hope we all have lives, so in the effort to have the Clinic 'manned' as much as possible we’ll keep the idea of a schedule fairly lax at the moment.
However, the Clinic is going to start having set hours of operation probably from about 9am until 11:00pm with anything else being an ‘Emergency On Call’ sort of situation.
Various posts in the community throughout the day, by Clinic Staff are acceptable but in between the doctors and the assistants we have got to stop stepping on our own creative work.
We ask that if students/faculty/townies need the Clinic during open hours of operation they post to a thread opened by a Clinic staff member. After hours anyone can post to the Clinic as an ‘On Call Emergency’ situation and whoever might be around can jump in to lend a hand.
2)Speaking of assistants. The requirements for the assistants is going to change a little. We’re going to be putting up a ‘Filing’ journal were charts on the patients will be recorded so that anyone who is an employee of the clinic can ‘access’ a patient’s history and answer questions, respond to emergencies, without having to hunt all over the community for info on what’s happened in the past. Everyone who is an employee of the clinic will need to keep their ‘charts’ up to date…even House.
If you are an assistant, please make an effort to put in some 'hours' at the Clinic at least bi-weekly. It doesn't have to be an individual post started by you but at least join in some comments. We're going to post a more detailed ‘job description' for the Clinic assistants and then clear out the names that are not active on the community and reopen the positions for other people who might want to have their character's be involved.
FH is a big and busy game environment and it's not fair to hold the positions if you're not going to do anything with them whereas someone else might like to leverage the position into their character's development.
3)ICA=ICC Since some people know this under different anachronisms, In Character Actions = In Character Consequences. If your character does something in the Clinic they are in public and open to response from people who have reasonable access to the Clinic. There will be no 'locking' of posts on the
fandom_clinic community.
If you want to have something happen in a supply closet, post it in your personal journal and then link it back to the Clinic. I like links, they're pretty and shiny and the like but as with Rule # 1, if I see a post to the community that has a 'locked to characters X, Y, and Z' in it I will pull it.
Okay, three little guidelines OOC for all of us to follow to try to maintain the creative integrity of the community for others to stop by and enjoy.
If these three new guidelines are consistently ignored or broken, the next step is going to be to lock the community in regards to who can post there. This is a step that House's Player and I want to avoid at all costs but to quote Joss Whedon, "We'll get awfully choked up, I mean it, there could be tears" but that won't stop us from doing it.
These changes will go into effect starting on October 20th.

I'm fairly certain we've decided it's going to be a journal that staff can link to and keep track of so the question will be how best to maintain and keep the journal neat and easily accessible.
We'll let folks know how to submit prior medical histories once we get the journal up and running.

Also while I agree that RL shifts would be a bad and hard thing to do (Especially with people in different timezones) maybe the attendents could do shift-hours? Which means to say of course that when one of us (Except for House and Wilson who are presumed to be there all the time, waiting behind a corner with a cane) makes a post we could rough out hours in the subject. Like:
Jack O'Neill - Clinic Duty - 1800-2200
On another line maybe there could be links to the Attendents voicemails (In case or emergency) so that if someone had an emergency while Wilson-Mun and House-Mun are out Jack or Lily or whoever's on can grab it.
*Such the Geek*

You absolutely rock, you know that? Let me think about the idea of time lines on the posts when I'm more awake, but I love the idea about links tothe different voicemails for the On Call Emergencies.

I'm ADD and Organizational OCD, lists and anything that makes things easy are my life.

In regards to the whole 'chart' thing. Seeing as Jonathan does counseling and that's confidential and what not, how should he handle that?
and lastly in a completely OOC note I hate both you and the House-mun. I'm watching House now thanks to you. *tears hair out* I do not need another fandom! *cries*
Great idea I'm behind you anyway I can be!

Hmm... as for Jonathan's charts...obivously IC they would be confidential to his eyes only, I'm not sure how they're supposed to be 'readable' to the OOC public. I'm thinking maybe some sort of OOC comments when they're linked saying, 'This information is confidential between Jonathan and Patient's name, and can not be used in IC game play from this source' ?
no subject
*nods* that sounds great, just wanting to maintain Jonathan's professional integrity
*snicker*and it's awful. I saw ads for the show when it first came on but was all, 'a medical drama? With those actors (didn't find them attractive in the previews) yeah, probably not'. Then suddenly I'm wandering along checking out the clinic and there are these totally interesting characters running around with their angst and their snark and remaining totally not emo.
So I watch an episode and dude! Those guys are the hotness in action. SO yes, I'm hooked and I blame you and I hate you *sticks out tongue*

But I would probably make happy squeaky noises if there were some way Jonathan could maybe hold the hours tomorrow with a note that he usually held those hours on Wednesdays...or maybe held the hours today but a little later, like 6 to 9?

Also, ooc wise, what are we going to have to do with the charts if anything? Because it would be lovely if the various characters had a set of links to previous times they had been in the clinic.
no subject
Yeah, that's going to be part of the new 'job description' for the assistants is a certain amount of committment to making sure that if your character does anything with a patient that would require an IC note in their medical chart like, give out birth control, draw blood for tests, amputate a leg...a link needs to be provided to the 'Filing' cabinet so that if another staff memeber interacts with that patient they can read back over what's been done prior without having the scour the clinic community.

I'd offer to help organize things, but I'm being run over by essays. Many essays.

Jack's mun is being an absolute dear and working on all sorts of lists and links. We are offering many cookies and other humble sacrifices in their honor. :D
