Fandom Clinic; Thursday [12/01].

By now, the fact that another large crab-related Christmas decoration had been added to the lobby was hardly even something of note at the clinic that week. In fact, it barely received any attention at all, because one of the nurses kept sighing into her hot chocolate and bemoaning the fact that other places were getting eggnog.

It was pointed out to her that this was a very professional setting where oftentimes people's lives could be at stake, so sobriety was kind of important. Unconvinced, the nurse pointed out that there was alcohol here all the time.

You could hear a pin drop in the silence that followed.

"Not for drinking!"

Libby, meanwhile, was just going to try and focus on her reading and computer modules for the week while they worked on sorting that out...

The Clinic is open!

While there's still space to actually move around in the lobby, before all the lighted crab decorations take over.

Yes, they are strung up with crab string lights, it sets a very nice mood, really.

If you thought some surprise hot cocoa that morning was going to keep Kurt from showing up you would be dead wrong. Thankfully he had done the cooking for the next few days the day before so the lack of water wasn't a big deal.

"Hey Libby!" he said with a grin as he walked in, giving the nurse station a bit of a glance before pulling his attention back to Libby. "How's it going?"

"Oh, Kurt, good!" Libby gushed out, relieved for a more effective distraction from the heated 'is rubbing alcohol for drinking?' debate that had caused a bit of tension between the nurses that day, already pulling her chair back to grab another one to pull up for him. "I have a question for you, actually."

Nothing too big or anything; she could have very well have just asked the nurses, but she sometimes felt like, outside of anything medically related, she couldn't really trust them to give her an honest answer. She felt like they took the opportunity to lightly tease her about things she didn't know much about, but she knew she could trust Kurt on the matter.

There was something special about these lunch dates at the clinic and Kurt always looked forward to them.

"Oh? What's that?" he asked as he set the familiar tote bag on the desk.

He had a question for Libby too, but could definitely wait till they got around to eating.

There was a small huff of frustration, for having not been able to figure it out on her own, but Libby was rarely too proud to ask about something she didn't understand, and she looked at Kurt hopefully.

"What do crabs have to do with Christmas?"

Now it was Kurt's turn to be a little perplexed. He thought a moment as he glanced over at Stabby's tank.

"Well I know there's a type of crab known as the Christmas Island Crab" he said after a moment of thought. Kurt pulled out his phone and started looking up some pictures.

Libby sighed a little again, shaking her head. "That's all I came up with, too," she said. "But when I asked what all the crab lights were for, the nurses said it was for Christmas. Now I'm sort of wondering if that's where Stabby's originally from, and so this time of year makes him feel homesick, and somehow all the lights make him feel better?"

She had really been spending way, way too much time trying to make sense of this.

"Maybe....." Kurt said after a little more thought. "Maybe it's just a way to make Stabby feel included? They have Christmas lights and all for just about anything. I mean, the only reason reindeer are associated with Christmas is because someone wrote a story that became popular. Maybe Stabby would like something familiar for Christmas so the lights are just something nice for him?"

He really was just spitballing here... but it KINDA made sense? Maybe?

You could tell by the way Libby blinked and sort of stared at Kurt a little after the word story that she'd been struck by an idea.

"Do you think," she asked, that hopeful look back again, though it was tinged with a little bit of worry that this was maybe a silly idea, but still.... "we should write Stabby his own Christmas crab story?"

"Oh! I think that would be fun!" Kurt said with a nod as a grin spread over his face. "I think Stabby would like it as well," he said with a glance over to the tank and the crab lights.

And yes, he did have good ideas.... now and then!

Libby had suspected it would be the kind of thing Kurt would have been on board with, but it was still a relief to have it confirmed, and a grin soon followed on her own face. "It should be some sort of adventure story, too, right?" she suggested. "Like maybe a Christmas quest?"

... I may need that crab for my lawn. Like immediately.

"Definitely! Oh! Maybe it could be that Stabby is sad they don't have Christmas on the island because it is too warm and tropical. No snow and all that. So he has to find a way to make Christmas special where he is!" What? Kurt? Love a good story telling adventure? YES!

"Or to learn that you don't need snow and all that to make Christmas special," Libby suggested, with a little bit of a smile as she took a page out of Kurt's own book, she felt, especially with their conversation about the holiday earlier that week, "especially with the help from all of his crab friends!"

"of course, can't do anything without the help of good friends," Kurt said with a grin and a somewhat shy smile at Libby because that was a bit on point too given the last few conversations, especially this past week or so. "Christmas is who you are with even more than what you are doing with them after all."
