Clinic Open for Regular Hours - Thursday October 20th
It probably went without saying that Wilson was going to be dragging, just a bit, this morning. Whether it was simply the after effects of the privious day or whatever he'd gotten up to the night before, could be a source of speculation for anyone who...spent such time doing those sorts of things.
For now, he was setting out a sign in sheet, checking on the waiting room to make sure the water cooler was full and the chairs were mostly straight. It was a small thing but a tidy waiting room tended to help people relax.
Covering a yawn, he took a swig off his super charged quinti shot coffee nummy and headed back to the front desk. Okay...he hadn't gotten a chance to work on much of his paperwork last night and it was starting to pile up.
Sitting down, long legs were kicked up on the desk -the man honestly could not sit straight in a chair to save his life- and Wilson yanked the clipboard down into his lap. Time to work on some scheduling.
Don't anybody laugh.
Doctor on Duty, come poke, pester or bleed on as you so desire.

"I shouldn't have brought it up. Not with you, that was... I don't expect you to betray his confidence, and I wouldn't ask that of you. Not for this."

Leaning back against the counter, Wilson crossed his arms over his chest and set his stance, watching her closely.
"We can not deny knowledge of a possible course of treatment because we believe that it would be abhorant to the patient. If we do then we're the ones who are guilty of making a decision for a patient in that we deny them the chance to review the option. You provided a sound and logical course of treatment for House's situation. Would it have been better if we'd all listened to him and had faith that he'd be fine, despite overwhelming medical evidence to the contrary? Maybe. Or maybe he would have died because, much as we all love to believe otherwise, everybody is falible."

It isn't about blame as much as where our real ethical responsibility lies, and our ability to help our patients. Do you ever doubt yourself? *cough* With everything that's happened here, and back in New Jersey, I think maybe I shouldn't...*cough* I wonder what the hell I am doing here, some days." She admits miserabley.

"When you stop questioning yourself, Lisa...you've either bought into the 'God' Complex or you've just stopped giving a damn. And that, is when you need to get out."
Tearing off the two bits of paper, he held them out towards her.
"Our one rule as doctors is 'Do No Harm' but those three words are open to a myrid of interpretation. What is harm? Is physical harm greater than emotional harm? If I have a patient who is Stage IV, in incredible agony and I ignore his pleas to end it and instead keep his body alive for another few days is that the ethical decision? Am I a better doctor for it?"
Perching himself against the table next too her, he gave Cuddy a gentle smile.
"There are no easy answers to these questions, Lisa and yes...you will find yourself faced with ethical delima after ethical delima. It is not easy work and sometimes all you have to carry you is your belief in what you're doing."
no subject
She hops up. "I should stop wasting your time."
no subject
"Actually, I fear I must have just wasted your time because...none of that was what I was saying, Lisa."
Moving back to the counter, he flipped open her file and began to note down the scripts he'd just written out.
"Do you need a note for your teachers?"
no subject
She looks at him with a blank gaze. "I think I should resign my position here. Should I address that to you or to him? I'm assuming a letter will be more than sufficient."
no subject
"I can take it, if you're certain that is what you want to do. If you'd rather, take a LOA for a couple of weeks, see if things calm down? You just said yourself, you're feeling rudderless."
Using the script pad as 'official' letterhead, he wrote out the note, watching her from the corner of his eye.
no subject
Cuddy makes an attempt at smiling, but her features are strangely tight and fail to be warm despite her efforts. "Thanks, for the note."
no subject
"All right. I'll let House know of your decision and we'll pull you off the schedule. But, if you find you want to change your mind, the door is always open for you Lisa and Greg and I would be thrilled to have you back."
He smiled warmly and gave her back a gentle, clinical rub to help loosen some of the congestion.
"In the meantime, you know the drill. If after a week you don't think you're improving come back in and we'll run a culture."
no subject
"With my luck, I'll be in for films by the weekend and you'll be scheduling me for a biopsy."
Her mouth forms into a grimace, realizing that if you are trying to be funny when it comes to cancer, you have to actually be funny or it falls really flat.
"If you need me - for an emergency or you have a question about one of my charts - I live with Alanna, just pass me a note through her. I'll see you." She says, not quite sure. She can feel a tightness in her chest she is not quite sure can be blamed on her cough. "Yeah... okay. Thanks, again."
no subject
Giving her shoulders a gentle rub that was more affectionate then clinical he straightened.
"Good to know, thank you. And, Lisa...we are here, if you need us."
He smiled warmly and bopped her lightly on the head.
"Try to get some rest."
[ooc: Nov 1 will indeed be a happy day! I'm sure I can speak for House here when I say that Lisa will be welcomed back with open arms and whoops of joy when she's ready!]
