Susan opened the clinic, and got out her files for the patients she was expecting-- and again, hoped that new doctors would be reporting in soon.

"Ahh, the future. This is what I think about the future," he said, picking up the figurines. "I can't say for certain exactly what will happen. But this is what I would like to happen." He replaced the soldier figure with another soldier, this one in just a millitary uniform with no gun. He placed it down with the family figures together in the sand.

Susan smiled, relieved. "And how does this figure--" she pointed to the new soldier-- "differ from the old? How does he have a family he can be close to?"

"Well, I think this one found something to fight for. I mean, something better than money. So he doesn't just have to travel the world, moving from one war to another just for a paycheck."

Susan's smile broadened. "I think this soldier has an idea of how to balance his life. Work, and money, and family, and home." She tilted her head. "Would you like to explore that more? Maybe look into ways to plan for that future?"

Pip smiled, tapping the cigarette ash into a tray. "Yeah, I think I would."
